David Binkle was appointed Deputy Director of Food Services for the Los Angeles Unified School District in December 2007. Binkle oversees menu & compliance areas within the division, ensuring the District stays at the forefront of national, state and local food policies and procedures.
As a Certified Executive Chef, Certified Culinary Administrator and Certified Executive Pastry Chef he brings more than 30 years of experience as a senior food service administrator, corporate chef, culinary arts instructor and Food Services Director. Prior to joining the District, Binkle was Director of Dining Services at California State University, Fresno. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Health and learned his culinary skills at the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York. In addition, He is currently completing a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Northridge Tseng College of Business.
He is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and longtime member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), Retail Bakers of America (RBA), World Association of Chef’s Society (WACS) and Texas Chef’s Association (TCA). He is currently serving as the President of the Chef’s de Cuisine Association of California located in Los Angeles. He is the owner of California Culinary Consulting and Metropolitan Signature Catering providing services to such clients as the State of Montana, the Center for Ecoliteracy (CEL) and MINT Foods Canada.
Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, David and his wife Linda reside in Castaic, CA and have three boys Chris (28), John (25) and Tyler (13).
